EMPLOYMENT LAW

Efficient, informed, effective action on all employment law issues

Vincent Sykes & Higham deals with a wide range of employment law issues for clients based in the UK and internationally. We predominantly advise employers although we often come across employment issues for ex-employees of other companies wishing to launch their own businesses. The degree to which such individuals are restricted in practice from doing what they did in their previous jobs can make the difference between success and failure in business.

Our areas of expertise include:

  • the preparation of employees’ and directors’ service contracts tailored to meet the individual needs of our clients, including advising on non-salary benefits such as tax efficient share option schemes;
  • the impact of European Union law, including its effect on maternity and paternity rights, working time and parental leave;
  • the requirements for equal treatment of staff, assisting clients to avoid claims for discrimination on the grounds of sex, race or disability through, for example, the introduction of equal opportunities policies and if need be, through representation;
  • redundancy and dismissal, either setting up procedures to ensure that a fair process is followed or dealing with disputes over the fairness of such a process, whether through representation at the Employment Tribunal or through alternative dispute resolution;
  • trade union related matters, including collective bargaining, recognition agreements and industrial disputes;
  • advising and negotiating compromise agreements - these are agreements required to settle employment disputes on the termination of an employment contract
