Administration of Estates
Vincent Sykes & Higham LLP has a wealth of experience in acting in the wide variety of matters than can arise when someone dies, either with a will or without. Many of our clients have, in the past, been farmers and the administration of estates involving land or farming interests is something with which we are particularly familiar.

As with other areas of the firm, our Department offers a personal and accessible service, preferring to see the clients and go through matters with them, and then using letters, faxes and e-mail once the initial contact has been made and the relationship is established. Every situation is different, and experience and professionalism ensure that every client’s need is met in the best possible way.Our solicitors are trained to be sensitive to the emotions of the family, while at the same time giving sensible and accurate advice. All our fee earners in the Private Client Department are encouraged to attend courses and become members of professional bodies to ensure that such advice is up to date and accurate.

Our advice does not end with the administration of the estate, but can extend to advising the beneficiaries on tax planning or their own will drafting and we even offer a financial service to advise beneficiaries on how best to use any money they may have inherited (assuming it is not already earmarked for their own purposes!). The possibility of rewriting the deceased’s will can be discussed if appropriate.

Formation and Administration of Trusts

Trusts can arise out of wills or intestacy or can be set up during someone’s lifetime. Either way, accurate and practical advice is available from the solicitors in the Vincent Sykes & Higham LLP Private Client Department.

We have experience of setting up trusts for children and grandchildren, spouses, charities and the disabled. Occasionally a client will want a special form of trust to protect the fund from loss on the possible bankruptcy or divorce of a beneficiary. Again we can advise on the best type of trust for the client’s own individual needs, preferring to meet with the client to ensure that we understand what he wants and to explain how the trust works legally, practically and from a taxation point of view.

We will often work closely with the client’s accountants or other professional advisers, and can ourselves offer investment advice through our connections with a nationally recognised independent financial adviser.
